About Coffeesquared
This started as a question I asked myself a lot: why is it so hard to find honest, no-BS coffee content that doesn't assume you're either a complete beginner or a credentialed barista?
I'm an avid coffee drinker with a home espresso setup, a weakness for coffee gadgets, and a background that includes some time working at a Starbucks roasting plant on the production side. I know just enough to be dangerous — and curious enough to keep going deeper.
Coffeesquared is my attempt to document that curiosity in a way that's useful for people like me: busy, serious about quality, allergic to pretension, and always looking for the next great cup. You won't find me consulting a flavor wheel and solemnly pronouncing that a coffee has "notes of bergamot and black currant." You will find me saying "this tastes like the best caramel you've ever had and I'm making another cup immediately."
The site covers brewing methods (all of them — I'm equal-opportunity), gear that's actually worth the money, tasting notes written in English, and a weekly spotlight on an independent small roaster. That last one connects to another project I run called SmallCoffeeRoasters.com — a directory of over 5,600 independent US roasters. If you're looking for great local coffee, start there.
If you want to follow along, the newsletter is the best place to do it. Bi-weekly, no fluff, easy to unsubscribe.
A note on affiliate links
Some links on this site are affiliate links — if you buy something through them, I earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. I only recommend products I'd actually use. It helps keep this site free and ad-light.
